Detroit and Windsor get together each
year for probably their biggest event. This year it was marked by
a shooting and murder. I hope that people realize that this can
happen at any big event. There were over a million people there
and the police as always did a great job protecting the citizens.
The shooting was something that really could not have been prevented.
Our Mayor, Police Chief and the Prosecutor are all under pressure
because this is a high profile crime. In many cases the police,
prosecutors and judges are more concerned with a fast conviction
than convicting the guilty party. You would be surprised
how often this happens. (It is easier to convict an innocent
person than a guilty one.)
Daron Caldwell, 32, was charged with eight counts of assault and second
degree murder. His family, friends and attorney say he is
innocent. According to the hotel clerk and friends he was at a
party at the Shorecrest Motor Inn where they watched the fireworks
display.
According to Police Chief Bully-Cummings he has been identified by
witnesses. I do remember a white man saying that he was the man
but he was not 100% sure. Victims and their friends say that he
was not the man.
Aaron Edmondson said the man was a dark skinned, short male and about
17 years old. Caldwell is a light skinned tall male and 32 years
old. Edmondson's friends also say he was not the man but the
police say they changed their stories to protect Caldwell.
Caldwell refused a lie detector test on the advice of his
attorney. He said they are not reliable. I agree if anyone
cares what I think.
Based on all I have read this is a case of the justice system replacing
justice with expediency. Anyone who can tell us more about the
case on either side please send me an E-mail at
